original entry title: ‘ready for blue skies’
The sky was dingy, and though we had a brief respite yesterday — all bright and blue — today was back to heavy rain. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a good thunderstorm (and all things weather in general) but the “gloomy” needs to hold off for a few days in a row.
In other news: the hours have been packed with taxes, budgeting, pixel wrestling, planning, making, eating, and reading the easily digestible chapters that comprise Vonnegut’s “Cat’s Cradle” — a second-hand paperback I picked up to learn more about Bokonism.
The odd thing, searching the author’s name to link up this entry, it seems Mr. Vonnegut has passed on.
Today.
I am saddened and decide to finish the book. Picking it up, the current chapter ends:
Someday, someday, this crazy world will have to end.
And our God will take things back that He to us did lend.
And if, on that sad day, you want to scold our God,
Why go right ahead and scold Him, He’ll just smile and nod.

Chris – I was also sad to hear that he had passed. I recommend Deadeye Dick.
I’d bet that Oprah will have her book club reading Slaughterhouse Five soon. 😉
No one has better chapter breaks than Vonnegut.
****spoiler alert***
When I read Cat’s Cradle in High School, I had just finished the scene where Ice-9 has frozen the world and the narrator comes upon a small scene where people have ingested it and died. At that moment I looked up and on the TV was the breaking story of the Jonestown massacre/mass suicide in Guyana. So creepy and sad.
