Microwave

Popcorn

After years of living without one, I now own a microwave. I didn’t really miss having one, as I prefer how an oven cooks things.

I never minded having to boil water for tea or oatmeal. The device just fell into that category of unnecessary.

So I inherited it from the studio. Now I can make popcorn and soften butter lickety-split.

How boring.

Microwaves should not be used for boiling water. The temperature and pressure difference between inside and outside the machine can cause the water to explode. Serious.

all you need to do is make sure you put something (like a wooden spoon.. wood works well, as it has a non-smooth surface) in the bowl so the escaping gas (from the water being heated) can form.
If you don’t do that, it’s possible to take the bowl out, noticing that the water isn’t actually at a boil, but the second you put your finger/object into the bowl, the physical boiling will begin. Not a pretty sight.
But yes, I agree, there is little reason for a microwave oven.
