Coming Soon to your local market: The Snickers Aisle

I was sitting there on the back porch, drinking my Sprite Remix (aka tropical flavored), thinking about how great it is to be here now, with all these options in life. Who knew just ‘gettin on’ would be so rewarding.

Back in my day, when you wanted a Snickers, there was one option. There were no sizes to get confused with, just a simple candy bar you found in the checkout lane.

Somewhere along the line, packaging options gave us the ‘miniatures,’ not to be confused with the ‘fun size.’ These were the opposite of the ‘King Sized’ ones that perhaps disproportionately mixed ingredients to a varying degree of success. Not long after, they started chopping up them Snickers and puttin ’em in ice cream, or making ice cream with the fundamentals of a Snickers.

Technology evolved so we can have super tiny Snickers in spheres. These ‘Pop’ables’ will surely catch on as we need more food on the go. Who wants chips in a bag when you can have ’em in a handy plastic container for the cupholders in your car?

Aside from all this packaging foolery, there are now complete variations on the theme. Snickers Cruncher! Snickers Almond! Cookies and Snickers! Each variety comes in a variety of sizes as well.

Maybe, by the time I am retired, the checkout lanes at the grocery store will be 20 yards long, filled with soap opera digests, great magazines, toenail clippers, sundries and of course, lots and lots of candy bars.

Hmmm. This is much to ponder and my tropical flavored drink is empty. I wonder what tree grows this tropical seasoning… I’d love to put it on my cereal.

Who needs simplicity?
